Wellington is lucky to get the chance to see Matt Richardson. Less than three years after his comedy debut he’s becoming one of the hottest names on the circuit.
Matt has appeared in the Finals of some of the biggest stand-up competitions in the country, including the prestigious ‘So You Think You’re Funny’, The Chortle Student Comedy Award and performed to several thousand people in the Comedy Tent at Latitude Festival in the final of their New Act of the Year competition .
He is currently working on his hotly anticipated début solo show for Edinburgh 2013 and on its first outing at The Leicester Comedy Festival in February 2012, Matt won their much coveted “Best New Show” prize.
He’s here in our very own theatre because of promoter Luke Honnoraty. “I promote comedy acts across the West country but because I come from Wellington I was keen to get something started there,” he explained.
“Reel Cinemas who run the Wellesley have been fantastic and are letting us have the second Thursday of each month for stand-up. In July we’ve got Mike Gunn, who’s a regular big draw at the Comedy Store in London but I’m just as thrilled to give a break to Taunton lad Bobby Honeybun who’s doing only his third gig as support to Matt.”
Here’s what the media said about Matt Richardson
“This (extremely) young stand-up is poised to become the next bright young sensation on the comedy circuit – expect to hear a lot more of him”
“Confident and engaging delivery… at just 19 there are bags of potential here”
“A whirling ball of talent, energy and intelligent observational comedy who spoke with great skill and affection of his family and his experiences. He comes across as a man who could read the phonebook and make it funny, but instead of painting by numbers his comedy is sharp, strong and very impressive.”
