Sam Cunningham, owner of ‘Wet and Wild’ on Fore Street, has been forced to reduce the opening hours of his popular fresh fish and game shop following a fall three months ago which has resulted in three prolapsed disks.
He has been advised to rest as much as possible as he seeks to avoid surgery. He said, “I’ve been told that if I have an operation I’ll be out for 7 months – and that will mean I have to close the shop. I’ve now given myself 8 weeks of rest to see if my back improves. I’ve decided to open on 3 full days a week – on Thursday, Friday and Saturday until 5pm – to give me 4 days of complete rest. I’m really hoping that will make the necessary difference. My brother’s also helping out.”
He started work as a fishmonger as a Saturday assistant in Don Jones’ shop in Cornhill until it was destroyed by fire in 2008. Sam opened ‘Wet and Wild’ in 2016 having spent time working for Rick Stein in Padstow.
