Wellington artist Claire Western was able to hand over £308 to Barnardos following the recent pop-up gallery staged for a week in an empty town centre shop. Seven painters and sculptors put their work up for sale over a six-day period and donated the normal 25% commission to the local branch of the childrens’ charity.
“It was a huge success, both in terms of sales and the number of people who really enjoyed coming in to look at the art work and chatting to us,” said Claire. “It was so generous of the shop-owner to let us borrow the premises.”
“Our next venture to support Barnardos is going to be an Art boot sale in the playground of Wellington Junior School on July 7th, and that’s going to involve around 30 artists selling direct to the public.”
