Speculative and unwelcome plans to build over 250 new houses and flats at Rockwell Green have been turned down by Taunton Deane planning committee. When the scheme went public scores of local residents protested and Wellington town council recommended refusal.
Developers hoped to build a new estate on the farmland to the west of Baguley Rd as far as the relief road roundabout. The weakness in their scheme was that the land is not zoned for housing in the district’s overall development strategy.
Here’s the decision in full:
Outline Application with all matters reserved, except for means of access, for the erection of up to 205 dwellings and up to 60 apartments with care (Class C2), with public open space, landscaping, sustainable drainage system and vehicular access points from Exeter Road on land to the west of Bagley Road, Rockwell Green
