John Walker and fellow members of his band, Tony Woollard and Andy Burne, handed over a cheque for £615.00 to S.U.R.E Chairman, Paul Alway at Wellington Arts Centre this week.
The money was raised from John’s annual charity concert – Pot Pourri – earlier this month. It included an individual donation of £200 made in memory of John’s brother who died of cancer earlier this year. This is the tenth year in succession that the John Walker Band has staged an event to raise money for charity.
S.U.R.E – the Somerset Unit for Radiotherapy Equipment – has been raising funds for a replacement CT Scanner/Simulator at the Beacon Centre, Musgrove Park’s specialist cancer treatment unit. Earlier this week Paul Alway was able to inform his committee that the target of raising £500,000.00 by March 2017 has now been reached, all of it from charitable activities and events locally.
Now the charity’s fundraising efforts will focus on continuing to provide equipment not otherwise available within the NHS budget which will have a benefit for cancer patients’ treatment.
