Pupils at St John’s CE Primary School welcomed some rather unusual visitors to their assembly last Monday to launch their Literacy/Art Enrichment Week.
The theme for the week was a whole-school focus on the traditional tale of Little Red Riding Hood with each class focussing on a different version of the story. Children and staff enjoyed taking part in a range of writing and art activities including re-telling the story in a variety of ways, a wolf hunt, story swaps, painting scenes from the story onto canvas, and creating a willow wolf with local sculptor Stefan Jennings.
Gifted and talented pupils were fortunate to work with young animator, Harry Bayfield, to create a stop-motion video of the tale.
The week ended with a well-attended open afternoon in which parents supported their children in a variety of art activities. Literacy and Art subject leaders Linda Roberts and Halina Bayfield who organised the week were delighted with the outcomes and are already planning next year’s extravaganza!
