Barber shop with a dartboard and table football. That’s what you call bloke-friendly. Blacksheep Barber in Mantle St opens on Saturday with a whole new kind of haircutting experience for Wellington’s male population.
“I want to make it really old-school,” said owner Lise Cunningham. “I actually thought about being Men Only but that doesn’t really work with me cutting the hair.”
Her boyfriend Anthony Gill encouraged Lise, 27, to start the business, sure that it’s the kind of cut that his mates at Wellington Rugby Club will enjoy. “It’s my first time in business for myself so I’m excited but bricking it at the same time,” she said.
The two stylish yellow and grey barber chairs came from Italy and set the tone for the interior style of the barbers – which is next door to The Emporium.
“We’re going to be opening late on Thursday and Friday evenings but closing at 3pm on Saturday – so that I can get down and watch the rugby,” said Lise.
