Council offices in Taunton and Wellington have closed early today at 1pm due to RED weather warning of blizzards and extreme cold. With further heavy snow and freezing temperatures forecast overnight, the offices will remain closed tomorrow (Friday March 2), this includes the Chelston depot where all vehicles, part from 4x4s, are off the road.
The public can still call on 01823 351411 if it’s an emergency. TDBC staff will respond to the highest priority calls from tenants if there are urgent problems with heating, electrical safety or sewage problems. We are working hard to make sure we have some key services available tomorrow for our customers – revenues and benefits, housing and the Deane Helpline based at Kilkenny.
Taunton Crematorium is due to close at 1pm today and a decision will be made later on whether it can re-open tomorrow (Friday).
Somerset County Council has information on school and road closures – https://somersetnewsroom.com/2018/02/28/ready-for-the-big-freeze/ – you can also tune in to your local radio station for updates.
Met Office warnings are posted online metoffice.gov.uk and on Twitter – @metofficeSWEng.
Please stay safe and only travel if vital – don’t take any risks in this extreme weather. Keep an eye on your neighbours, especially if they are elderly/vulnerable.
