Jeremy Browne MP told a lively meeting of the Wellington Business Association that he is deeply concerned about “the Road to Nowhere”.
That’s the label being attached to the new road serving the Longforth Farm development. It will link the Relyon site to the A38 at Cades Farm but fail to link up with the B3187 and provide a bypass for traffic travelling to MIlverton.
“We can all see that it doesn’t make any sense but I don’t think we can ask the developers Broome Homes to pay any more than they are already,” said Mr Browne, sporting a new beard. “This really should be one for central government funding.
“Taunton has done very well for infrastructure projects in the last few years with major new bridges at Silk Mills and the town centre, plus the £21m for the Northern Inner Distributor Road which is being built.
“Surely it’s now time for some spending on Wellington and I shall be pressing that case with ministers. In years to come it will seem hugely foolish and penny-pinching not to link the road to the B3187 and take a lot of heavy traffic out of the town centre.”
