Each of Wellington’s four main car parks now displays a beautiful and quirky hand-drawn map of the town centre. “A funky map for a funky town,” commented Nick Girone- Maddocks, Branch Manager of estate agents Gibbins Richards who co-sponsored the maps alongside printers Carly Press.
“It’s great to have our company connected to such a vibrant and forward-thinking idea” said Nick, “Wellington’s a great place for a huge number of reasons, and these maps show the massive variety that our town centre offers”
Wiveliscombe artist Lois Musson is responsible for the artwork, which uses delicate original logos for each shop and business and manages to pack an enormous amount of detail the maps.
“The original car park maps were installed about five years ago and were more conventional Ordnance Survey type views of the town. Much of the information had become outdated so we decided to go for a totally new approach,” said Keith Wheatley, chair of the Wellington Business Association who co-ordinated the project.
The hand-drawn map is also available as fold-up pocket version free from many shops in town as well as the Tourist Information Centre.
