Feeling flat and flabby after the long, dark winter? In need of a quick work-out to get you going for spring? If so, Cardio Tennis may be just what you need!
Introduced by the Lawn Tennis Association in partnership with the Tennis Foundation, Cardio Tennis is a new and box-fresh exercise programme which requires no specific tennis skill but happens to take place on a tennis court. It aims to ‘improve fitness levels, tone and shape key muscle groups and burn calories’ – as well as including a bit of shot-making and racquet skill.
Anyone can have a go, regardless of tennis ability. You don’t even have to own a racquet as all equipment is supplied. It promises to offer a full hour’s workout, including a warm-up, an aerobic section, a tennis section – fun games in teams, not one on one competition – and finally a cool down. And there’s ‘motivating music’ too.
Wellington Tennis Club has become a Cardio Tennis venue and hosts the first Cardio Tennis session on Wednesday 6th March at 7pm. Anyone who fancies a different kind of workout from a visit to the gym or who wants to just get fit and have fun can turn up. You don’t have to be a member of the club; just go along and pay £2 for each session. So, sixty minutes of exercise which promises to burn off 600+ calories, is enjoyable and makes you new friends as well? Sounds like a bargain!
