Wellington Carnival Committee Chair, Dave Rylatt, has confirmed that the revenue from the 2017 carinval amounts to £2,700.
He said, “The count was delayed due to moisture issues but we can now confirm the total raised. It is £200 down on last year but there seems to be a trend of a reduction of £200 year by year.”
The organisers are certain the weather played a big part this year when the weather was better than forecast but nevertheless wet and windy. With donations falling, the Committee has introduced measures such as the sale of LED toys before and during the event to add to the funds it can distribute to local organisations.
Dave Rylatt added, “Wellington Carnival would like to thank all the local groups and charities who helped us this year, especially the ever-youthful Madge Covey who single-handedly collected £225.”
Madge is seen above with Wellington Carnival 2016 Queen and Princesses.
It is worth noting that the organisers and their supporters all give their time voluntarily so that all the money raised can be handed back to community groups.
