St John’s HQ to become flats?

A planning application for change of use and conversion into 3 two bedroom flats of the vacant St John’s Ambulance storage and training building in Victoria Street has been submitted to Taunton Deane Borough Council Planning Department.

The distinctive white-painted building is not listed nor is it within a conservation area but the proposed development aims to preserve several of its current characteristic features. These include the black door at the entrance to the building which will be restored and used as an external fascia to one of the two ground-floor apartments. A third apartment will be on the first floor and accessed via an external staircase. It is proposed that a bell will be added to the bell tower, the current gates and railings restored and new fencing provided.

Car parking will be at the rear of the building.

The application has been submitted by Mr S Sobczak whose current address is in Sidmouth.

Details of the application (43/17/0072) can be found on TDBC’s website.
