The start of the autumn term has seen changes at the top of two of the town’s primary schools.
Mrs Mary Clothier began her tenure as Acting Head of St John’s C of E Primary School, succeeding Mr Gareth Jones who has taken over as Head of Parkfield Primary School in Taunton.
In her letter to parents Mrs Clothier spoke of being ‘very proud’ as Head of such a ‘caring and special school’. In acknowledging the ‘big change’ that a new Headship incurs, she said that she had visited the school over the summer term at various times to ‘allow for a smooth transition’. She added, “St John’s has a bright future and I feel privileged to be able to play a part.”
Mrs Clothier has experience as a Headteacher in three church primary schools and as Deputy Head of a large middle school. She is a parent of two children and said, “Working closely with parents and carers is very important to me as together we can improve the educational outcomes for all children in our care – giving them the best choices for their future.”
In its last Ofsted Inspection in November 2015 St John’s was graded as ‘Good’ in all categories.
Wellesley Park Primary School has welcomed back Mrs Lindsay Gabriel as Headteacher following her secondment in May 2016 as Executive Principal of three schools – Wellesley Park and two Bridgwater schools, Willowdown Primary Academy and Woolavington Village Primary School – which are member schools of the Collaborative Academies Trust (CAT).
Mrs Gabriel became CAT’s Executive Headteacher of Wellesley Park and Priorswood Primary School in Taunton in January 2017.
A spokesperson for Wellesley Park said, “Mrs Gabriel is delighted to be back with us and the reason for her return is that her move to Executive Principal was a secondment. The period for this has now passed.”
Mrs Sian Evans who was appointed as Head of Wellesley Park in May 2016 during Ms Gabriel’s secondment is now continuing her former role as Deputy Headteacher.
Wellesley Park was graded as ‘Good’ in every category in its Ofsted Inspection in November 2015.
