Wellington school children are being enlisted in the battle to encourage responsible dog ownership locally. Through their schools, they are being asked to come up with images and slogans for posters to make people stop and think about the mess dogs (and their owners) leave behind.
Taunton Deane Borough Council’s community development team in Wellington is organising the poster competition with support from Wellington Action Group (WAG) so children can communicate their message straight to the public.
The deadline for entries is July 8. The competition will be judged during the school holidays and the winners, announced in September, will receive a prize. Entries will be collected by school staff or can be sent directly to Martha Dudman, Community Development, The Deane House, Belvedere Road, Taunton TA1 1HE. They can also be dropped in to the Wellington Community Office in Fore Street.
It is an offence to allow pets to foul public areas – and children are often the victims when they play in parks and playgrounds, walk along the street or cycle.
