Wellington’s penultimate match of the season was a total cliffhanger. With five minutes to go Bude led by two points before Will McKegney snatched victory from the opposition’s grip with a penalty five minutes from the end.
The sides were level 10-10 at half-time with Mickey Norman and Ali Taylor scoring tries for Wellington and Dan Pearce going over for a try for Bude and also kicking the conversion and a penalty.
In the second-half Bude were ahead 22-15 at one stage with captain and centre Kyle Speare having scored two tries, including a splendid solo effort, with Pearce converting one.
Taylor and McKegney scored second-half tries for Wellington before McKegneys last gasp penalty dashed Bude’s hopes of victory after a spirited display throughout the game.
On Saturday WRFC travel to Devonport for the final match of the season, lying safely mid-table with some excellent performances behind them.
