Plans for over 100 new houses at Cades Farm have been rejected by the Wellington Town Council. These were the reasons:
Recommended to Taunton Deane planners that the application be refused for the following reasons:
– The proposed dwellings would be in excess of the requirement in the Core Strategy;
– The additional number of dwellings would have an adverse effect on the town’s infrastructure
– The proposal would be an overdevelopment of the site.
The Town Council were disappointed with the limited consultation process that had taken place. In addition no consideration would appear to have been given to the overall planning strategy for the whole site. If permission were granted then this would also affect the level of contribution that would need to be made in accordance with Section 106 Agreement.
With an ongoing protest movement against the proposed 650 homes at Jurston Farm gathering momentum, the WTC appear to be reflecting a growing concern in the community about the town’s rapid population expansion.
