Could Wellington become a new centre for local crafts and emulate the success of the monthly Craft Market in Frome?
A small group of traders with craft businesses are to take the first steps towards that goal on Saturday 15 April when they join Wellington Farmers’ Market stallholders and put crafts made in the area on sale on the street.
One of the stallholders to be found in Wellington this Saturday, Charlotte Beatty, explained: “The idea was thought up by myself, Maxine Price and Laura Knight. We’re all local traders with craft businesses who have been busy attending local fairs around the county. Wellington lacked something like this and we thought we could inject a bit of craftiness into the town! We felt that, by running it alongside the local Farmers’ Market, we could help bring a wider range of customers both to us and the market’s traders.
“Our idea has attracted huge interest from local craft traders and we aim to have something for everyone. Our stalls at present include children’s clothes and shoes, vintage cakes stands, books & cards, jewellery and wire and clay art – and there’s more to come! We’re aiming for some regular traders to be there each month.”
The Farmers’ Market is open on Saturday 15 April from 9am to 1pm in High Street and Fore Street, Wellington, and the first and third Saturday of every month.
