Wellington Tennis Club raised the flag in support of Britain’s victorious Davis Cup team this weekend by getting into action on the court themselves.
Juniors joined the club’s coach Dan Sizer and his coaching team in a fun Davis Cup-style tournament – GB v Belgium – with some players turning out in red, white and blue colours.
After playing drills and doubles matches all those competing received wristbands and LTA Witness History certificates from club Chairman Sue Rackley.
The idea of encouraging active support from club tennis players of all ages is an LTA initiative, celebrating a momentous event in the country’s Davis Cup history. Great Britain last won the Cup in 1936 and, with Andy Murray ranked 2nd in the world heading the team in the finals in Ghent this year UK tennis has received its biggest boost for years.
