Dolphin Inn owner Anna Madams is thrilled with the pub’s stunning success in a competition to find the UK’s best pizza. Entries ranged from pizzerias to gastropubs and from Edinburgh to London. The Dolphin’s pizza came 6th out of almost 200 competitors.
“How exciting,” said Anna “ We were rather surprised when we found out we had made it into the final 16 (out of 170) and even more so when we didn’t come last!
“The tough competition included genuine Italian pizza chefs and some posh restaurants so all in all pretty chuffed with ourselves as we have only been making them a year! If you haven’t had one yet then now is the time to come down and try one.”
Finalists had two chances to demonstrate their abilities: a Signature Round, where chefs prepared their own bespoke recipes, and a Technical Round, in which they cooked a pizza using ingredients given to them on the day.
“The judges had an extremely tough job whittling down all of the entries to just 16 finalists,” says Tristan O’Hana, editor of Casual Dining Magazine, which hosts the event. “There’s no doubt that the National Pizza Awards 2017 showcased the skill and creativity of pizza chefs across the UK. It’s going to be a great battle.”
