This week the Emporium doubled in size. Less than six months since they opened, owners Cato and Sean Cooper have refurbished the upper floor of the former chapel in Mantle St to provide room for 16 new stall-holders.
The opening party was packed with traders, friends and customers. For many of the traders it’s their first step to direct retailing; having previously sold online or at craft-markets.
“It’s just a wonderful environment to start selling my quilts directly to the public,” said Wellington quilt-maker Bee James. Downstairs in the re-modelled gallery space, painter Leo Davey was getting a lot of attention for his paintings of Kilve Beach.
“This space is just what the town needs,” said Leo, recent bronze award winner of a national Sunday Times art prize.
