Spectrum, Wellington Arts Association’s art & crafts section, is holding its annual exhibition this week at The Arts Centre, Eight Acre Lane.
There are nearly 150 works on display including paintings, jewellery, needlework, pottery, ceramics, photography, glasswork, sculpture, stenciling and calligraphy. Many are by members of the Spectrum group but some are by artists who live locally. Many of the exhibits are for sale at very reasonable prices.
The Spectrum group meets at the Arts Centre every Monday between 2pm and 4.30pm. Former Spectrum Chairman and life member Rosemary Savory explained: “Usually there are about 12 artists who come on Mondays but there are sometimes more.” Asked about the history of Spectrum she said, “I was asked by the late Alexandra Fox to start an art club in Wellington. We found it was costly to hire a room so when The Arts Association got going after it was formed in the 1960‘s and acquired this building we were happy to move here and become part of it.”
Spectrum arranges occasional talks, demonstrations and workshops and visitors are always welcome.
The exhibition is at The Arts Centre from Monday 18 July to Saturday 23 July from 11am daily. Entry is free.
