It must be many years since the town’s community Centre has been smarter or busier. Over the past six months a new committee has overseen a near-complete refurbishment of the premises in White Hart Lane.
In September the main hall was professionally redecorated from skirtings to ceilings with the old curtains replaced by vertical blinds. This, plus replacing the large end windows with double-glazed modern units, has transformed the main hall. Volunteers are now working to achieve a similar transformation on the small hall.
Significant contributions to the project came from Wellington Town council, the Co-op community fund, Wellington Spirit Awareness Group, Brendon Energy and Section 106 development money from Taunton Deane council.
The two halls are available to rent for various periods from two hours to a full day. See www.wellingtoncommunitycentre.org.uk for details.
