Russian fashion designer Alla Sellick was guest speaker at the recent Wellington WI meeting. She specialises in wedding dresses and works from her own studio in Chelston.
Alla trained in all aspects of garment making in her home country of Russia, followed by several years working in a small studio, then she returned to college to study design. After moving to England she worked for a top bridal designer before opening her own atelier in Chelston, where she creates evening wear and tailored garments as well as wedding dresses.
Alla really enjoys working with brides-to-be to make sure their wishes are taken into account in the design of their wedding dresses, and that they look stunning on the big day. She is happy to make dresses which can later be worn as evening wear with a few clever tweaks. Her top tip for brides? Don’t start a diet a month before your wedding!
Next month’s talk will be on reverse appliqué. Sounds interesting? Why not come along for 7.30 on Thursday October 16 to the Beambridge Hotel for a friendly welcome, cake, and the chance to find out more.
In the meantime, members will be taking part in quizzes (one with fish and chips!) skittles, walking, writing, reading and crafting- we have interest groups for all of these activities. As well, there is a cheese and wine party and a trip to Yeovil to hear the Military Wives’ Choir.
