In the Wellington Bowling Club’s annual Mixed Pairs Competition there are just four pairs left to fight it out for the Championship. Ian and Eileen Stewart battled through to the quarter finals with a close win over Barry and Janet Vile, 13 – 10. They then came up against David Beaudet and Yvonne Abbott in a game which could have gone either way but five shots near the end swung it to Beaudet and Abbott who pinched it by two shots 17 – 15.
Alan and Liz May proved too strong for Stephen and Janet Lovell who did everything they could to slow their opponents down but lost out 27 – 5.Nick Channon and grandaughter Leah Waygood took on the powerful pairing in Mike and Carol Connor but the family pairing of Channon and Waygood were too good on the day winning it 17 – 6.
The experienced Mike and Gill Groves got off to a very good start against Esther Twose and Ken Foweraker and although Esther and Ken fought back well the victory went to the Groves, 16 – 9.The scene is now set for two major semi-finals battles
.Alan and Liz May will play David Beaudet and Yvonne Abbott while Mike and Gill Groves will take on Nick Channon and Leah Waygood to decide who will play one another in the competition final.
