Fantastic streak of music coming up in Wellington this week. Thursday night sees Jules Bushell and Nick Girone-Maddocks (50% of the much-missed Thunderbridge Bluegrass Boys) playing together at the Dolphin. Nick explains all:
“Yup, we’re still Out There punting our thing to anyone who’ll listen. Just to let you know that the plans for the Big New Project are going as well as they can be, in readiness for the summer. Meantime, we’re inviting you to a little gig on Thursday 2nd May at the newly-refurbed Dolphin Inn, Waterloo Road, Wellington. Our good friend Jon Maybey has set up a weekly event there and we’re doing our thing from 8pm this week.
“Do come along – it’s a lovely venue with good food (or so I’m told!)and some great beer. The music will of course be the unique Girone-Maddocks / Bushell blend of roots, acoustic, bluegrass, Americana and lots of other stuff played with all sorts of instruments…..”
Friday night sees Wellington School old boy Tristan Mackay return to the town as part of a UK tour. Tristan was working as a busker when he self-recorded and released his first two E.P’s from his bedroom studio. His track The Wine and Me was featured in the Channel 4 show Skins and Be all that You can Be was featured by Aled Jones on Good morning Sunday. Tristan was busking full-time in London in 2010, when Martin Levan, Grammy Award winning producer, invited him to his studio to lay down demos. The Leeds-based singer-songwriter is currently receiving critical acclaim for his debut album ‘Out Along the Wire’.
