The battle for top spot in Toolstation Division One Western saw another skirmish this weekend with Wellington AFC conceding their leading position to rivals Hengrove Athletic – but on goal difference alone.
Wellington drew their match 1-1 at Devizes while both Hengrove and third placed team Keynsham Town both won. All three teams were playing away.
The contest at the top of the division could hardly be tighter with the end of the season in sight. Hengrove have 76 points from 35 matches, Wellington have the same number of points but have played 36 games and Keynsham Town have 75 points from 38 matches.
Wellington will play their postponed away fixture against Warminster Town on Wednesday 5th April, by which time Hengrove will have played two games, against Oldland Abbotonians and a potentially tricky fixture away against Cheddar who are currently in 4th position in the league and with a chance of overtaking the current leaders.
The Tangerines’ next home game is against Calne Town on Saturday 8 April.
