Leon Searle will be remembered by everyone who saw Wellington Operatic Society’s impressive production of ‘Oliver’ at the Wellesley Theatre last year. He played the role of (a very nasty) Bill Sykes and, as a result, was nominated for ‘Best Supporting Actor’ by Somerset Fellowship of Drama. At the recent awards’ ceremony he received the David Beech award, beating off competition from actors’ performances across the county.
Leon is now turning his attention and considerable performance skills to a very different role in Wellington Operatic Society’s next production, ‘Singin’ in the Rain’, playing the famous Gene Kelly part of Don Lockwood. The show is being directed by Susan Green.
“Leon has been working hard on his dance routines. He really gets into each character and takes good instruction as well,” said Op Soc’s John Walker who directed Leon in ‘Oliver’.
Singin’ in the Rain opens at the Wellesley Theatre on Tuesday 6 May and runs until Saturday 10 May.
