Pupils from Years 5 and 6 at St John’s Primary School visited Wessex Water’s Ashford Treatment Centre near Cannington as a culmination of a topic on rivers.
The children toured the treatment centre, learning about the cleaning process for water from reservoir to tap and how the volume of water from two river sources into the reservoir is controlled.
Their second activity was to explore rivers, features and flow and conduct practical activities to measure water speed.
After lunch they were challenged to make an effective water filter using a plastic bottle and variety of manmade and natural resources.
