Cothay Manor’s magnificent gardens and historic medieval house provided an idyllic setting for the Garden, Plants, Crafts and Food Fair at the weekend. The event attracted 38 stall holders and many visitors who could browse both the stalls and the manor’s 12 acres of ‘garden rooms’ which have been judged one of the 20 Best Gardens in Britain in the national press. This year the event also included a Children’s Play Area. A spokesperson for Cothay said, “We’re really pleased with the turnout today. By lunchtime we had 150 cars in the car parks.” More were expected before the fair closed at 5pm.
The Garden, Plants, Crafts and Food Fair is one of a number of events at Cothay Manor during the summer – including a 3 day Antiques’ Fair and Shakespeare in the Garden featuring an all-male production of ‘As You Like It‘ by the Festival Players earlier this month. A second Antiques’ Fair takes place in October.
Proceeds from the Garden, Plants, Crafts and Food Fair will be divided between the Children’s Hospice South West and funding to preserve the manor’s historic paintings.
Cothay Manor’s gardens are open to the general public from April to September each year. Guided tours of the manor take place on most Sundays and every Bank Holiday from April to September.
