Taunton Deane MP Rebecca Pow will be holding a special Fair for older residents from across Taunton Deane on Saturday 26th August following the success of her Older People’s Day Fair last year.
Rebecca’s “Older Generation Fair” is being held to raise awareness of the many activities, hobbies, services, volunteering opportunities and more available across Taunton Deane. There will be taster sessions going on throughout the day with a main focus on health and wellbeing.
‘We’re all getting older,’ says Rebecca Pow, ‘and in a bid to help smooth the path and highlight the many opportunities available I am holding this Fair focusing on the older sector – which includes anyone from my age upwards! I look forward to welcoming as many people as possible to the event where there will be something for everyone.’
Exhibitors include The National Trust, Berry’s Coaches, The Royal British Legion, Hestercombe Gardens and many more.
The event is free of charge and is being held between 11am and 2pm at The Somerset County Cricket Ground in Taunton.

And there’s more good news for older people. The team at The Emporium Somerset on Mantle Street, Wellington, will be helping to fundraise for The Silver Line – an organisation for lonely and isolated older people – this and next year (2017/18) after choosing it as the store’s Charity of the Year.
Funds from various events and from the collecting boxes in the store will go to the charity.
Claire Lindfield, Head of Corporate Partnerships at The Silver Line, said: “We are thrilled that The Emporium Somerset has selected us as its Charity of the Year. All the support we receive is vital to the service we provide.”
The Silver Line operates the only national, free, confidential helpline for lonely and isolated older people. It currently receives 10,000 calls a week and more than 68% of calls are made during the night or at weekends.
Cato Cooper, Co-owner of The Emporium Somerset explained: “The Silver Line does amazing work with lonely and isolated older people and we are super excited to be supporting it as our Charity of the Year. We are really looking forward to fundraising in aid of the charity during the coming 12 months.”
