Stefan Warwick’s Ready, Bready, Dough bakery in Lancer Court is now closed following Stefan’s decision to change course and return to his roots as a chef. Stefan’s new venture, STC Catering, promises to deliver ‘high quality catering for any occasion’ – including weddings, christenings, corporate events, afternoon teas, hen parties and private dining.
Stefan explained: “Before I opened Ready, Bready, Dough in 2009 I was Head Chef at The Mount, Somerset, having trained initially at Reading College. I then worked in local restaurants, hotels and pubs in the Republic of Ireland, Bedfordshire and Gloucestershire and spent a season in France so my background is as a chef.”
He added, “I was always fond of Somerset and have family ties in Porlock so I moved to The Mount, met my wife – and the rest is history!”
One of his reasons for starting on his new venture is because working from home offers him greater flexibility than in hotel work. He said, ‘It’s time to reevaluate. I’m not getting younger, I had a snowboarding injury, the children are getting older (they are 9 and 6) and the bakery took its toll. I sacrificed a lot over 8 years with all the night work and, at the end when I concentrated on the wholesale side of the bakery, the ties were just too overwhelming; 99% of my retail customers continued with their orders right up to the closing date.”
His new business will include catering for a wide range of functions including canapé and dinner parties, delivering Christmas orders such as cakes and yule logs and offering cookery demonstrations.
“Early signs for the business are quite good,” he said. “There are no other catering firms directly serving Wellington in this way and there’s a market to build on here. I’ll focus on freshness and producing food which is hand-made; nothing will be bought-in.”
With an established reputation built from 8 years in Lancer Court and his experience as a chef, it’s likely that Stefan’s customers know STC Catering will provide a high-quality service.
