Claire’s unisex hairdresser’s shop on South Street, which opened just 2 weeks ago, may be new to the street but Claire’s old, established clientele has moved with her – joined already by new clients attracted to the bright, welcoming salon.
Claire Dunn’s move from North Street where she originally set up her own business in 2005 has taken her to a “better location. Everybody has followed us here and we’ve had lots of new people coming in. Our clientele has shot up. I regret not moving earlier,” she added.
A former pupil of Court Fields School, Claire began training as a hairdresser at Valerie’s in Rockwell Green when she left school. “I always wanted hairdressing,” she said. “My Mum’s a hairdresser but she didn’t want her own business. She comes in to help out on the 2 days each week when I’m not here.” Claire’s staff of 5 includes one full-time employee – Danielle – and the rest work part-time.
Asked how she found working in South Street she said, “I’m loving it. It’s lovely being so busy! Wellington is so friendly. New clients who have just moved to the area say that everyone is happy and says ‘Hello’. In the coffee shops and everywhere you just see happy faces.” Claire was not surprised to learn that Wellington had been judged ‘The third happiest small town in Britain’ according to The Times.
