Wellington Police Station is now open four days each week and for double the previous number of hours. Introduced on 1st September, the station’s new opening hours are from 10am until 2pm on Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Saturday. Previously, the station was only open one day each week for 8 hours.
Wellington sergeant WPS Helen Boyd said, “This means that we can now give the town better coverage and handle enquiries from the public on 4 days each week which we hope will be more convenient and fit better with people’s working hours.”
Temporary Assistant Chief Constable Nikki Watson explained the force’s new strategy: “Our enquiry offices are a vital channel for members of public to interact with us and we want to make sure we are providing the best service to meet the demand we face.
“We have spoken to partners, staff and members of public and we were consistently told our opening hours can be confusing and it would be simpler if we removed alternating patterns and instead open the same hours every week.
“We will be making changes to our police stations in the coming months and years so there will be further changes as part of our estates’ strategy, but it was important for us to provide a simpler service for our communities as soon as possible reflecting the change in the way people want to contact us.”
Taunton Police Station will be open 7 days each week from 8am until 8pm.
