Parents and carers of children due to enter primary schools in September have learned the outcome of their applications for places.
According to Somerset County Council (SCC) information published today three of Wellington’s primary schools – Beech Grove Primary, St John’s C of E Primary and Rockwell Green C of E Primary – are all oversubscribed. Figures for Wellesley Park Primary School are not included on SCC’s list as it is part of the Collaborative Academies Trust (CAT) which is its admissions’ authority and makes decisions using its own published admissions arrangements.
Beech Grove is the largest of the town’s primary schools with over 470 pupils. 98 applications – 1st, 2nd and 3rd choice – for the 42 places available in September were received. The school has now been able to offer 45 places.
St John’s C of E Primary has nearly 170 pupils on roll. 57 applicants expressed a 1st, 2nd or 3rd choice preference for the school. It has offered 25 places.
Rockwell Green C of E Primary School has 25 places available out of a total roll of nearly 170. 47 applicants expressed a 1st, 2nd or 3rd choice preference for a place at the school and SCC has now made 29 places available.
All of Wellington’s primary schools were graded as ‘Good’ in their most recent Ofsted inspections.
Last year SCC recorded the highest number ever of primary aged pupils in the county. Numbers are expected to continue to rise until 2019 when a slight decline is forecast.
