Beech Grove Primary School’s Years 5 and 6 shared the outcome of their history project with invited guests, parents and carers at the end of the Spring Term – and served up tea and scones too.
The pupils have spent the Spring Term looking at aspects of World War 2 and presented a medley of songs from the period – including Flanagan and Allen and Vera Lynn favourites – in a ‘World War Songs and Scones’ concert this week. Craft work – models of WW2 air raid shelters – were on display and many of the children wore period costumes, dressed and labelled as evacuees carrying ‘gas masks’. Years 5 and 6 Phase Leader Matt Mustafic introduced the project to the audience.
A trip to the WW2 Home Front Experience at Nothe Fort, Weymouth with class teachers earlier this term provided pupils with awareness and inspiration. They also visited The Court and Popham House Residential Homes to interview residents about their personal experiences of the war. Some were able to join the audience of parents and carers for the concert.
