Rockwell Green Primary School, Wellington, was taken over by a magnificent array of characters from children’s books for the school’s World Book Day celebrations on Friday 9 March.
The event was originally planned for Thursday 1 March before the ‘Beast from the East’ brought snow and closed the school. Head Morwenna Dunstan said, “Parents said they and their children were so disappointed when World Book Day had to be cancelled and asked us to rearrange it. Today we’ve had a special assembly when pupils have brought in their favourite books to talk about them. The response we’ve had is amazing!”
If proof were needed of the value of World Book Day in stimulating children’s response to books and their characters, evidence could most certainly be found at Rockwell Green with the whole school community – parents, staff and pupils – involved.
The school’s PTA also held its annual Mothers’ Day Shop on the same day. Gifts for mums could be selected from those contributed by parents. Proceeds go towards the PTA’s funds.
