Pupils at Beech Grove Primary School, Wellington, have raised over £3,000 so far for Cancer Research UK from their Race for Life event in February.
This was the second year the school has organised the the race which raised £7,000 in 2016 and this year Brenda Scott from the cancer research team came along to support the event. She said “It’s brilliant to see people having fun and fundraising.”
The race was held at Wellington Park and pupils from Reception to Year 6 ran different numbers of laps around the park according to their age. They made the most of the occasion by wearing flashes on their tops and decorating their faces with neon paints. At the end of the race every pupil taking part was presented with a medal.
Sara Tirrell, Head of Beech Grove, said, “The event was a real challenge for the children and required determination and perseverance to complete on what was a very cold day. In true Beech Grove style, our pupils ran with great enthusiasm and beaming smiles on their faces – even when they were exhausted!”
All funds raised go to researching cures for the 200 types of cancer.
