Riley Bowler, 9, wrote to the Queen inviting her to attend the Leavers Service at Rockwell Green Primary School in July. And now he’s had a reply from Buckingham Palace.
Riley wanted Her Majesty to present a farewell gift to headmaster Peter Williamson who retires this summer after 20 years in charge at Rockwell Green. In his letter he described the head as a “good and fantastic man”.
“It was a very well written letter and entirely Riley’s own idea,” said Mr Williamson. “No one at the school knew a thing about it until he brought the reply in to show us.”
“I was very nervous about opening it when I saw Buckingham Palace on the envelope. I had had to wait until we had a knife because I didn’t want to tear the envelope,” said Riley.
Lady Susan Hussey, a lady-in-waiting to the Queen, explained that Her Majesty was unable to come to the service herself but that she sent Mr Williamson and everyone at the school her very best wishes.
