Dan Sizer, Wellington Tennis Club’s coach, has won the Aegon Tennis Coach Award for the South West Region and will now go forward to the National Finals.
The Aegon British Tennis Awards are a celebration of the people and places that deliver participation and competition. The LTA, Tennis Foundation and Aegon launched the awards in September 2015.
At the Aegon Summer County Championships in Cromer Wellington’s Dan Manlow joined the Somerset team playing in Division 2 for the first time since the 1980’s. The men’s county team won promotion from Division 3 last summer. However, the team faced tough competition and despite a win against Lancashire were relegated from the group following losses to Suffolk, Hampshire, Yorkshire and Middlesex. Dan, a former pupil of Court Fields School, has been coaching and playing tennis in the USA for the last few years.
The Davis Cup Trophy comes to Somerset on Friday 26 August on the final day of the county championships played at Taunton Tennis Centre. It will be on display between 10am and 1pm.
The championships now include events for all mini and junior age groups from 8U to 18U, men’s and women’s open and doubles events. Somerset LTA have introduced a men’s and women’s +35 event this year. More details can be found on Somerset County Championships website. The deadline for entries is 7 August.
