Jeremy Browne MP has visited Relyon to discuss the company’s future plans with MD Andy Murdoch. “Relyon and Pritex are hugely important employers in Wellington. They are expanding as their businesses continue to grow,” said the MP.
“ Around 800 people are employed at the Wellington site and it makes a major contribution to the Taunton Deane economy. Pritex has many prestigious clients including Jaguar and McLaren while Relyon is now exporting beds across Europe.
“Wellington needs a clear vision for the next twenty years. It is absolutely crucial that Relyon, Pritex and Swallowfield stay in the Wellington area. Relyon and Swallowfield have dated factories and, at some point, there will need to be additional investment in their facilities. This might be an opportunity for them to relocate around Wellington, presumably closer to the M5 around Chelston, but we need to keep them in the local area.
“Meanwhile extra development is happening at Longforth Farm and the population of Wellington is increasing. We must not allow piecemeal development to take place without having a coherent overall plan. That includes better roads, a possible new train station, extra public amenities and a secure future for Relyon, Pritex and Swallowfield.”
