Wellington School’s Head of Chemistry Chris Jones (61) has been named as the the victim of a fatal parachute accident at Dunkeswell Aerodrome, Honiton, on Friday afternoon.
The school’s Headmaster, Henry Price, said, “Wellington School is deeply saddened by the sudden death of Mr Chris Jones in a parachute accident on Friday. As Head of Chemistry, Assistant Housemaster in Willows and in numerous other roles, Mr Jones made a significant and positive impact on the lives of countless Wellingtonians and he will be greatly missed by the whole community. Chris had worked at Wellington for 13 years and was deeply committed to his teaching of chemistry as well as serving the boarding community and much more. Our thoughts are with his wife, Liz, their three children and all of his wider family and friends. There is a book of condolences available at School for any member of the school community to sign.”
The accident is not being treated as suspicious. Chris Jones was a qualified sky-diving instructor with experience of over 1000 descents.
A spokesperson for Dunkeswell Aerodrome said: “The British Parachute Association board of inquiry will investigate the accident and, when completed, will submit reports to the coroner, the police, the Civil Aviation Authority, the BPA and any other relevant authorities.”
