Three Wellington primary schools are so oversubscribed for the September intake that almost 200 families who entered Beech Grove, Rockwell Green and St John’s C of E First School as their first, second or third preference were disappointed when allocations were announced by Somerset County Council.
Beech Grove Primary School has 42 places to offer this year and 99 parents placed the school as their preferred option. Children living inside the school’s catchment and those living outside the catchment but with an older sibling in the school are allocated places.
Rockwell Green C of E Primary School has 23 places available and 52 parents placed the school as either their 1st, 2nd or 3rd choice. The intake has been increased to 26 places with priority going to children living within the catchment area.
St John’s has 60 places available and 159 parents placed the school as their preferred option. Priority has been given to children who have an older brother or sister already in the school, those living closest measured by the safest walking route and those whose parents are members of churches.
Other local primary schools – Wellesley Park, Sampford Arundel, Stawley and Langford Budville are not over-subscribed.
Court Fields Community School has been able to offer places to all pupils who placed the school as their preferred option.
