A-level student James McDermott, was able to follow his dream over Easter by winning a place on a coveted course for young would-be pilots.
16-year-old James, who is a member of the Wellington School Combined Cadet Force RAF section, was one of just 10 cadets from the UK selected to attend the Special Flying Award course at RNAS Yeovilton.
James was able to chalk up four hours flying in a Grob Tutor 115 aircraft with a former Fleet Air Arm pilot during the course.
He also toured the Wildcat Lynx Squadron and Sea King Squadron as well as the under-water escape trainer, which all Fleet Air Arm personnel experience on a regular basis.
In the summer holidays James is attending a course with the, the Air Cadet Pilot Scheme in Scotland where he hopes to go solo in the same aircraft he flew at Yeovilton.
