In the cosy ambience of the tea room at the Old Sale Rooms, Taunton Vegans organised a Spanish-themed dinner to celebrate World Vegan Day and over thirty people sat down to enjoy three courses of truly appetizing dishes which included Spanish omelette, black olive and walnut tapenade, paella, salads and orange cake with homemade vanilla ice cream rippled with almond butter.
Chef Clare Persey from Fairfoods said “We aim to showcase delicious, cruelty-free food and encourage everyone to go vegan for the animals. It has never been easier, give it a go – you’ll be surprised!”
As well as celebrating World Vegan Day the group took the opportunity to launch their fourth Taunton and Somerset Vegan Guide which lists local places to eat and shop, as well as containing recipes and useful information about becoming vegan and the vegan diet.
The free booklet, which is being distributed through shops, sports centres and other outlets in and around Wellington and Taunton, is proving very popular.
Suzanne Creighton-Kelly, a member of Taunton Vegans, said: “I am amazed at how many copies are being picked up – especially from fitness centres and yoga classes. It suggests that people are becoming more aware of the health implications of a vegan diet – as well as the ethical and environmental reasons that have traditionally influenced people to become vegan.”
Tushie Garstang, one of the founders of Taunton Vegans, said: “I’m very proud of how we’ve blossomed and in particular how successful our vegan fairs have been, reminding us that vegan food is both delicious and easily available.
