This year’s Spring Flower Show on Saturday 1st April has attracted a record number of entries. Show Secretary, Sheena Page, said, “We’ve had over 160 entries this year which is the best ever. It wasn’t so long ago at the millenium that we had just 40 or 50 so this is a huge improvement.” After judging, the show is open to the public at Wellington Prep School from 2.15pm to 4.00pm.
The Spring Show is a celebration of outdoor blooms – daffodils, hyacinths, tulips, camellias, flowering shrubs, primulas and hellebores – and indoor plants. As always, the show features some magnificent examples of both cut flowers and potted plants. Judging takes place before the show opens and will have presented some challenges.
This is a smaller, more intimate version of the extensive Summer Flower Show – now in its 83rd year – which takes place on August 26th in the Alan Rogers Centre, Wellington School. There are classes for fruit, vegetables, floral art, cookery, craft, art and photography and classes for children as well as flowers and pot plants . The closing date for entries is Wednesday 23rd August.
