Wellesley Park Primary School’s Christmas Fair attracted wholehearted support from parents, pupils, friends and families at the weekend and repaid the effort of the school’s PTA to fill the building and its grounds with stalls.
Hannah Eveleigh, the PTA’s Chair, and her committee have been working on the organisation of the Christmas Fair since the beginning of the autumn term with the help of a team of parents who contributed time and effort to making it a success. Hannah said, “We hope to raise at least £1,800 today, money which goes back to the school. To see so many people here is lovely. We have great support.”
The extensive ‘What’s On’ list included stalls selling cakes, books, toys, sweets and popcorn, uniform and tea towel sales in the hall, the school’s choir singing Christmas songs, games, face and nail-painting, food stalls – including a barbecue – and a Playbus. Pam’s Pancakes, a regular feature of the school’s fairs, were as popular as ever.
Raffle prizes that included family tickets for Hestercombe, Dunster Castle, Cheddar Caves and Gorge, Tropiquaria and @Bristol and vouchers for The Dolphin, Barleymow, The Green Dragon and Wellington Sports Centre illustrated the effort that the PTA put into attracting support for the Fair from both the town and much further afield.
Wellesley Park’s PTA raised nearly £8,000 last year to help the school fund trips, parties and play equipment. It seems that this year’s fund-raising has got off to a good start.
