Newly-promoted Wellington lost their Toolstation Premier Division match against Street on Tuesday and are now lying 17th in the league with just one win and three points from seven matches. However, there are encouraging signs for manager Clive Jones in the performance of his squad against a team in 6th place in the league.
Street scored after 30 mins after a period when neither side had a distinct advantage. At half-time the score was still 1-0 and, despite a more dominant display by the home side after the interval, the second goal for Street didn’t come until 89 minutes.
Wellington’s determination and work-rate were rewarded in the final minute of the match when Connor Pengelly scored a consolation goal for the Tangerines.
The team return to their North Street ground for the first time this season on Saturday 9 September for the FA Vase fixture against Wells City. Wells lie just above Wellington in the league and beat Wellington 2-1 in the Premier Division match in August. There is an additional incentive in the fixture: the winners receive £550 and the losers £175. The match is at 3pm.
