Wellington lost by a single goal in their home match against Hengrove in the Les Phillips Cup on Saturday 11 March. Although the result does not affect their position in the Toolstation Division One Western league, it is a match they might have been considered favourites to win. Hengrove lie below them in the table, albeit by only 5 points, but in the two teams’ league encounters this season Wellington have not lost to them.
In a closely-fought league campaign Cheddar stay top of the league on 70 points from 33 games, Wellington lie just below them on 69 from the same number of matches, Keynsham Town are in third place with the same number of points as Wellington but having played three more games and Hengrove have 64 points from just 31 matches, putting them in a strong position to challenge for promotion to the Premier Division.
In the midweek fixture on Wednesday 15 March Wellington play Cheddar at the North Street ground, an exciting prospect for the Tangerines’ fans. Wellington also play Wincanton Town at home on Saturday 18 March whilst both Keynsham Town and Cheddar have away fixtures and Hengrove play at home against Calne Town who lie in 20th place in the league.
