Rumours have been widespread in the town this week that Wetherspoons are pulling out of plans to convert the Old Town Hall into a landmark pub. But Eddie Gershon, spokesman for the chain with 900 pubs in the UK confirmed that plans are still “100% on. No question that it’s going ahead,” he said.
In fact, a letter taped to the door this week shows that Wetherspoons has just applied to Taunton Deane for an alcohol licence. The pub plans to stay open until 1am from Thursday to Saturday and until midnight from Sunday to Wednesday.
The application will be discussed at the Taunton Deane Council meeting on 24 March.
